How Events are Organized

There are a wide variety of events in FBLA, and there are a wide variety of ways to organize them too!
  1. Number of competitors: Events can be individual (1), team (2-3), or chapter (team of 2-3 leads project representing Gunn) events.
  2. Eligibility: "Introduction" events are limited to underclassmen. If you're a freshman or sophomore, intro events are a great way to get started!
  3. Conference: Generally, in order to advance to the next conference, you must qualify by placing toward the top of your event. Some events, however, begin at the state and national levels. If schedule conflicts mean you can't make regionals, try a state event!

Event Formats

The main way to differentiate FBLA events is by their formats:
  1. Objective Test: 60-minute, 100-question test
  2. Roleplay: Qualifying test + role play
  3. Speech: No test, just talking!
  4. Interview: Prejudged cover letter + prejudged résumé + interview
  5. Production: Create something under timed conditions at Gunn before conference + objective test at conference
  6. Prejudged Presentation: Submit presentation materials before conference; then, if you score high enough, present to judges!
Each type of event has its advantages and disadvantages. Because of this variety, FBLA offers numerous opportunities to play to your strengths and to develop your weaknesses.
